An 81-year-old Knott County woman who was shot once in the face on Saturday has died, and her son is facing charges in the crime, Kentucky State Police said.
Police were called to Ky. 550 in the Garner community of Knott County about 9:20 p.m. Saturday, where they found Elsie Ritchie with a gunshot wound.
Her son, Darrell Watts, 55, was arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree assault.
Ritchie was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital in West Virginia, where she later died.
On Sunday, state police said more charges were pending "due to the death of" Ritchie.
