FRANKFORT — Two Kentucky Army National Guard aviation units will have a farewell ceremony Sunday before leaving for training and eventual deployment to Kosovo.
Mobilizing for the year-long deployment are Bravo Co., 2nd Batallion, 147th Aviation, and Charlie Co. 169th MEDEVAC (Medical Evacuation). The two units will first travel to Camp Atterbury near Edinburgh, Ind., for several weeks of training before leaving for Kosovo.
In addition to 86 soldiers, the units will deploy with 11 UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters.
The farewell ceremony will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Army Aviation Support Facility, Boone National Guard Center in Frankfort.
This is the second deployment for each unit. Bravo Co. deployed to Iraq in 2005-06 and Charlie Co. in 2004-05.
Kentucky has only deployed one other unit to Kosovo. The soldiers of Company C, 206th Engineers served there in 2004-05.
