Kentucky State Police warned Kentucky residents Wednesday about a phone scam in which callers claim to be raising money to benefit families of fallen troopers or to help buy drug dogs for schools.
"These calls are not authorized by the Kentucky State Police," state police Lt. David Jude said. "They should be reported to the nearest state police post as soon as possible."
The caller has claimed to be with state police or the Kentucky State Police Professional Association.
The professional association, which consists of troopers and retirees, occasionally raises money, but they are not currently conducting a fundraiser, state police said.
Never miss a local story.
State police say the calls should be ignored. Anyone with questions can call their local post or the Kentucky State Police Professional Association at 502-875-1625.
