A 21-year-old Letcher County man died of injuries suffered when he crashed into a street sweeper, according to Kentucky State Police.
Benjamin P. Fisher of Whitesburg was pronounced dead at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn., at 7 p.m. Sunday night, according to a police report released Monday.
About 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Fisher was driving a 1999 Pontiac when he ran off the roadway, overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle, police said. He crossed the center line, colliding with street sweeper driven by Robert J. Beaver, II of Mallie.
The crash happened near the intersection of Ky. 15 and Ky. 1148 in the Isom community.
Beaver was taken to Whitesburg ARH Hospital before being transferred to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital in Lexington, police said.The accident is still being investigated. But alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash.
