A 7-year-old boy died and two other children and a woman were injured in a wreck in Anderson County early Saturday after the woman fell asleep while driving on the Bluegrass Parkway.
State police said Clorissa Hooper, 35, from Iowa, La., was driving east when she fell asleep and drove into the median at the 48-mile marker at about 1:28 a.m. She overcorrected, and the vehicle left the median, hit the earth embankment on the eastbound side of the road and flipped.
The boy, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out of the vehicle and was hit by a truck in the eastbound lanes, according to a news release. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another boy and girl were injured, but information on their conditions was not released. All three of the children were from Iowa, La., but state police did not release their names.
Hooper was taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, but no information about her condition was available from the hospital on Saturday night.
