The body of a Clinton County woman was found in a field early Monday near a car she had been driving, which was in a pond, police said.
Authorities believe Casey Burchett, 24, was able to get out of the car after driving into the pond accidentally, but then died as she walked to get help.
It's possible Burchett died of hypothermia, but the cause of death won't be known until an autopsy is completed, Clinton County Sheriff Rick Riddle said Monday.
Burchett apparently wrecked sometime early Sunday, Riddle said.
A farmer found the break in the fence she went through.
Police had the pond drained Sunday during the unsuccessful search for Burchett.
Early Monday, a volunteer found her body about a quarter of a mile from the car, in a spot that had been used as a road in the past, Riddle said.
State police are investigating Burchett's death, but no foul play is suspected, according to a news release.
