A Lake Cumberland landowner has allegedly failed to pay more than $12,000 he owes for cutting 24 trees on federal property, according to a lawsuit.
The government filed suit Monday to try to collect $12,467 from Jay Webb, whose address was listed as Berea in one document.
Webb admitted cutting the trees in 2006 on land in Wayne County controlled by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which operates the lake, according to the lawsuit.
Webb owned adjacent land and said he was making a path to the lake, according to a court document.

Webb agreed to pay $14,026, but he reneged on that deal and a subsequent agreement under which his monthly payments were cut, according to the lawsuit.
