The Boyle County Fair Board issued a statement Sunday apologizing for an incident at the fair last week.
According to the board, after a coon dog treeing contest, "several spectators encouraged a raccoon drag in the horse ring."
According to a report on WKYT, this involved putting dogs in the horse ring and letting them fight over the raccoon. WKYT said Danville police stopped the incident; the raccoon was "alive but severely injured" as of Saturday. No one could be reached for comment at the police department.
Danville police and Fish and Wildlife officials were investigating the incident, according to the fair board.

"No one on the fair board or myself was informed or approved this," said the statement from fair board president M. Ryan Owens. "We do not condone or support any activities like this at our fairgrounds nor will we ever. We wish to apologize to everyone and promise to work with all officials to resolve this matter."
