Fire investigators are busy in Williamsburg, trying to determined what caused a fire that damaged several downtown businesses early Monday morning.
Williamsurg Fire Department Capt. Troy Thomas said firefighters units were dispatched to the scene just before 1 a.m., after the blaze broke out at a flower shop on Main Street.
"It was a bunch of buildings that were all connected," Thomas said.
The flower shop and the Masonic Lodge located above it were damaged, and an adjacent lawyer's office sustained smoke damage, he said.
No one was hurt, officials said.
Thomas said units arrived in time to contain the blaze before it became worse.
"Another five or 10 minutes and it could have gotten into the upstairs," he said. "It was good work and I'm proud of the men."
Firefighters remained on the scene until about 4 a.m., he said.
