The Kentucky State Police Academy graduated 69 new troopers this week.
Among those honored at the ceremony was Patrick Ford of Versailles, who received the Ernie Bivens Award, given to a cadet who "shows distinction as a class leader, strives for academic excellence and has excelled in all phases of the academy's physical and vocational training," according to a news release.
The 92nd cadet class began with 110 cadets, but 41 dropped out during the 23-week training period.
Kentucky State Police Commissioner Rodney Brewer said the new troopers will help replace retirees, although the force is "about 100 troopers below fully authorized levels," he said in the release. The addition of the new troopers brings the total state police force to 910.
