An 84-year-old nursing home volunteer died after being hit by a vehicle while walking home from his volunteer shift Friday night.
Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt said Jim Ham of Morehead was crossing East Main Street at about 8 p.m. when he was hit by a westbound pickup truck.
There is no crosswalk, the area is not well-lit, and Ham was wearing dark clothing, Northcutt said.
"The driver said that he didn't see him," Northcutt said.

Ham was pronounced dead at the scene. Northcutt said the driver was not charged.
Ham had volunteered for many years at Life Care Center, where he took residents to doctors' appointments, delivered mail, helped with visits by community groups and participated in social activities.
He was a native of Rowan County who spent 45 years in the Chicago area. After retiring as a maitre d' at the Union League Club of Chicago, he returned to Morehead and became active in the community. He earned his GED at age 71.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, with visitation beginning at noon.
