New supervisor appointed to Daniel Boone

Frank Beum has been named forest supervisor for the Daniel Boone National Forest.

Regional Forester Liz Agpaoa announced Beum's appointment Friday.

Beum started working for the Forest Service as a seasonal employee in 1981. He has worked in a number of national forests. Since 2007, he has been a legislative affairs specialist in the agency's Washington office.

He has a degree from Ohio State University, and he said that one of his favorite memories from college was spending a week hiking in the Red River Gorge.

He and his wife Jan have two sons, ages 10 and 17. He will begin his new job Aug. 3.
