About 12,000 postal customers in Fayette County did not get mail service Tuesday because of the weather conditions.
The post office serves 150,000 customers in Lexington, said Susan Wright, customer relations coordinator for the Lexington Post Office.
Wright said there were also several minor “fender benders” involving mail trucks, and one mail carrier fell on the ice and broke his or her fibula while walking a route.
She said “it's extremely important” for postal customers to clear their sidewalks and the street approach to the mailbox. Customers whose mail is delivered to the door might also consider clearing icicles from their porches, since falling ice is also a concern for mail carriers, Wright said.
