Blue Grass Airport remains open, but airlines canceled 12 scheduled flights out of the airport and seven flights into Lexington on Wednesday morning.
Airport officials are urging those scheduled to depart or arrive to check Blue Grass's Web site at www.bluegrassairport.com.
The airport lost power shortly after 10 a.m. The airport has backup generators and is still open, said Amy Caudill, airport spokeswoman. The terminal is using emergency lighting.
Several flights did take off Wednesday morning, but airlines canceled more than half of the scheduled flights.
Caudill said the airport had 76 scheduled flights Wednesday, and the airlines decide how many of those take off and land as planned.
Already, ice and snow have caused more weather-related cancellations over the last 36 hours at Blue Grass than the airport has had in recent years.
"This has been a larger storm than we've experienced in the past," she said.
