The Lee County woman who died Friday after her car was swept off a road by floodwaters was identified Saturday as Lois McGovern, 63.
She was seen driving down Ky. 52 near the Estill County line when her Saturn was swept into nearby Sinking Creek. The car and her body were found Friday night.
Lee County Coroner Earl Ray Shuler said Saturday that McGovern’s death had been ruled a weather-related drowning.
For hours Friday, dozens of searchers including the Lee and Estill rescue squads, a swift-water rescue team from Lexington, state police, local sheriff’s offices and state fish and wildlife officials looked for McGovern.

Authorities thought that a child might have been swept away as well, but Shuler said Saturday that no child was in the car.Newnam Funeral Home in Beattyville was handling arrangements for McGovern.
