There was never much question that Lance Cpl. Timothy M. Jackson of Corbin would serve in the military; the only question was which branch.
As a student at Corbin High School, he was active in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. His father had served in the Navy. But he enlisted with a friend in the Marines even before he graduated.
Cpl. Jackson was four days shy of his 23rd birthday when he was killed in Afghanistan's Helmand Province Sept. 30 by a bomb explosion.
He served in the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Never miss a local story.
Cpl. Jackson is survived by his wife, parents and three brothers. Services will be held this morning at the Southeastern Kentucky Ag and Expo Complex Arena with burial in Wells Cemetery in Keavy.
We honor his sacrifice and extend our sympathy to those who are mourning his death.
