The University of Kentucky begins a series of meetings this week to brief members of the community on its master plan update and dormitory construction. UK's ambitious plans to build housing for 9,000 students in the next few years is sure to affect the entire city, particularly the surrounding neighborhoods. The first dorm is already under construction. Lexington is distinguished by citizens who take an active interest in land use matters, as evidenced by engagement in the city's planning process. Public understanding and input will be equally critical as UK moves forward. The meetings, organized for specific groups, began Monday with briefings for people from the Aylesford Place, Transylvania Park, Columbia Heights, Hollywood-Mt. Vernon and Montclair areas.
