When I first heard that Fayette County public schools would be closed for the eclipse, I was a little annoyed. I thought, “Why would they miss this opportunity to teach the students?” I thought it was certainly a flimsy excuse to cancel school.
I was definitely wrong.
I am so thankful I was given the opportunity to share this historic event with my two children. We were able to visit one of the designated locations for viewing (with our eclipse glasses). To watch this amazing event was worth so much to me. We all learned together. If my children had been in school that day, they would most likely have learned something, but we would have missed this awesome bonding moment that cannot ever be re-created.
Fayette County Public Schools’ decision earns my thanks and an A-plus.
Never miss a local story.
