Voters, heal yourselves
In a recent column, Maureen Dowd obsessed over the president's vacation and golf. Bill O'Reilly gave the subject another once over. There was much discussion about optics and insensitivity.
I have a question: If you take time from your workplace, you work six to eight hours a day and are on call 24/7, are you on vacation? The truth is, presidents never get a day off. It was nonsense when people complained about Bush at his ranch and nonsense now.
Sadly, Americans get their information in sound bites, photo ops and opinion, mostly from the "news" source of their preference. Did he bow? Where was the president during the attack? You lie. You didn't build that and on and on.
Never miss a local story.
Americans take little time to investigate complicated problems or verify comments or context. They are either too lazy to do a little investigation or already have their minds made up. Instead of beating the golf, vacation shtick to death, why not use the time to go in depth on an issue, any issue?
The truth is, Washington is dysfunctional, not because of politicians. It is because the American electorate has no intellectual curiosity and puts ideology before country.
It's bewildering trying to understand how the United Nations climate change panel has increased its confidence in the correctness of its computer model projections that show unprecedented climate warming in response to increases in atmospheric CO2.
John Christy from the University of Alabama, Huntsville has evaluated 73 climate models on how well they compare to actual temperature data. Every last one is wrong. If the science was settled, why would more than one model be used and why wouldn't its projections be right on the money, not 100 percent wrong?
The claim that the science is settled and there is no need to debate the science is a dodge invented as an excuse to hide their shoddy climate science from the general public.
Ringling Bros. Circus should not be here in Kentucky.
Circus workers and owners abuse the animals. Elephants are not dancing; they have a condition called swaying (symptom of zoochosis). Elephants and other animals walk thousands of miles. They are not intended to work for people. They should be sent back to Africa or sanctuaries.
In 1994 in Honolulu, an elephant injured many workers because they abused it. Many of us don't like circuses because we notice abuses and bullhorns. We know that they use bullhorns, abuse and starvation.
We should call mayors and city councils and say that Ringling is not welcome here anymore.
Friend of bacteria
Sen. Mitch McConnell's record on food safety makes me sick.
Salmonella, Listeria, Campylobacter — such agents sicken 48 million Americans and kill 5,000 annually. Tainted food costs the industry billions in lost sales, recalls and lawsuits.
This spring 1.8 million pounds of ground beef contaminated with deadly e-coli bacteria was recalled from nine states including Kentucky.
McConnell voted no in 2010 when the Senate approved, by a 73 to 25 vote, the Food Safety Modernization Act, which for the first time gives the Food and Drug Administration authority to test for dangerous pathogens and recall contaminated food.
McConnell voted against protecting Americans from unsafe food produced overseas by making imported foods subject to the same standards as those made here.
In 1995, McConnell voted against allowing the Department of Agriculture to require science-based hazard analysis and critical point control systems for meat and poultry inspections.
The antidote: Vote McConnell out.
No haters in heaven
I don't care who you are or where you are from. Your religion or political party will not matter. There will be no hatred in heaven, period.
It doesn't matter if you were raised to hate or what somebody did to a family member or loved one years ago, you and you alone will be responsible for what is in your heart come judgement day. If there is any hate in your heart for anyone, you are not getting into heaven, period.
Some people actually believe that God is going to put up with that kind of mess. Do they truly even believe in God? I find myself wondering about this, especially when I witness so called "Sunday Christians" at their worst.
Showing up for Sunday services every week and paying tithes is not enough. You can't buy your way in, your heart has to be right, and if it's not then you are just wasting God's time.
Heaven will not be segregated, so if the thought of an unsegregated heaven sounds horrible to you because you can't imagine yourself among "those people," then I don't think you will have anything to worry about. You won't be there.
Rein in Congress
An Aug. 30 Associated Press article, "Some senators face questions about where they really live," raises a subject that should be expanded to the House of Representatives as regards the Constitution's dictates.
Equally important is another constitutional violation having to do with when Congress reports to work. This great nation's Founders knew the dishonesty of mankind.
Sadly, their trust in potential legislatures was proven correct. Congress made what the Founders intended to be a part-time federal legislature into a 24/7 vocation.
To end the treason by our 24/7 legislators, who have kept our nation at war or in some type of military aggression since 1948 and placed a $17 trillion debt on our country, state governors and general assemblies must sue the federal government to return to the original dictates of the U.S. Constitution.
For crying out loud, adherence to the spirit of the Declaration of Independence and the dictates of the Constitution, would allow our country to return to the nation envisioned by our Founders.
American voters need to rise up in November, 2014 and November, 2016 and replace the current prostitutes/traitors with Americans who can read the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence and understand the dictates.
