Cop great; but hate Nicholasville Rd.
After a minor rear-end collision on Nicholasville Road, a Lexington police officer arrived at the scene. The traffic was unusually terrible for a Saturday and we were surprised to be hit in the rear before a stoplight. It seemed our car was in good shape but the truck that hit us seemed ragged.
The officer advised us to drive to a side road and park. Despite getting updates from insurance companies, I've never been instructed to get off the busier road.
The officer explained that, "in an obvious at-fault accident both parties should leave the traffic area." It makes sense, but I never knew this. He also educated us that in a questionable accident to stay where you are.
The officer, whose last name was Childers, was extremely professional and all four of us in vehicles had a positive learning experience.
I still hate Nicholasville Road.
The American way?
In 2009, President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, an honor that he had not earned. Now, he is trying to buy an exemplary legacy that he has not earned. Will Congress accommodate him? In public, Republicans have opposed his giveaways, but their past conduct suggests that taxpayers will buy Obama a legacy. In 2015, they will scatter his pandering giveaways and their own self-serving pork projects among hundreds of pages in the next irresponsible omnibus bill like they did in the FY 2014.
Will first-term politicians in the 114th Congress stand their ground? Or will they march in lockstep with pre-2015 politicians who should have been fired from Congress for dereliction years ago?
Instead, buildings and highways have been named in their honor. Like Obama and the Nobel, the sorry and current "State of the Union" now confirms that the long-seated incumbents were so honored for no good or earned reason.
Is that really the American way?
Don't be stupid
Thanks to President Barack Obama, the country is now experiencing record economic growth. Jobs, the stock market and GDP are all growing. The deficit has been cut in half and health-care costs have slowed. Violent crime has dropped for the last 20 years. All of the doom and gloom predictions made by the Republicans have proven to be false.
The Republicans have been wrong about every issue. Remember when George W. Bush lied us into an unnecessary war that is still causing problems for America? Remember when Bush caused the worst economic collapse since 1929? Remember when America was attacked by its own military scientist in the anthrax attacks?
We have a choice to continue the prosperity of a Democratic president, or we can change course and go back to another economy-destroying Bush.
Please don't be so stupid, Kentucky. Republican Bush presidencies produce economic decline and collapse, while Democratic presidents Clinton and Obama have produced record economic growth.
Turn off the Fox "news" and talk radio and stop listening to the lie machine paid for by billionaires.
Use common sense. Economic growth is better than economic collapse. A growing stock market is better than a shrinking one. Republicans are economic cancer.
McConnell a coward
Being a true patriot these days is getting increasingly more difficult. It appears neither party truly supports the Constitution nor the values upon which it was created. For example, Sen. Mitch McConnell has demonstrated yet again why he does not qualify to be our majority leader and a representative of our fine state.
While proving that he is a gutless coward, McConnell has caved in and is willing to support Obama's immigration amnesty plan which prevents deportation of millions of illegal immigrants. A Texas judge just blocked the policy, stating that the Constitution requires support of Congress, which the president does not have.
If this amnesty action holds, it will cost taxpayers billions. Where will the money to support this program come from? Why would a conservative Republican like McConnell ever support this plan?
McConnell promised he would repeal Obamacare, bring back the lost coal jobs and fight against Obama and the out-of-control environmentalists. He has done nothing regarding any of those promises. If this is what we can expect from him and other mendacious Republicans, then they need to go. Just like the Democrats they recently replaced.
