Marriage equality is human rights
Isn't it interesting to read about those who believe they have a right to oppose same-sex marriage? This is no more an opinion question than, say, should people be allowed to own people? Should women have the right to vote? Should people of different races be allowed to marry? Should our schools be integrated? This issue is human rights, period.
However, religious bigots (on the wrong side of history — again) point to a few snarky Bible verses to justify their hate speech. They are the same types of people who, back in the day, thumped their Bibles to justify slavery, segregated schools, the denial of suffrage for women, (American Indians, blacks, etc.), bans on interracial marriage.
Paul Chitwood, president of the Kentucky Baptist Association, should accept that LGBT Kentuckians are a "principled people," too. They are not sinners. Just one question: Didn't the religious leaders of Jesus' day see him as promoting an "alternative lifestyle?" Though they claimed to "see," to Jesus they were still blind.
Never miss a local story.
To Chitwood's followers: Pray that the LGBT community finds it within their hearts to forgive you and your "small God" message.
Kudos to animal shelter
To all Lexington residents who have not been to our Humane Society. please visit our location on Old Frankfort Pike and see for yourselves how hard the staff works to keep the animals safe, clean, happy and exercised.
In all the years I have lived in Lexington, I have never heard of the theft of an animal before this recent incident.
If a recent letter writer is so concerned about the animals, he should volunteer his time to help the hardworking staff. Don't blame the victim for the crime.
Keep up the outstanding work, Lexington Humane Society.
GOP disrespects nation
Republicans who sent the letter to Iran should be trying to make our country better not spending all their time fighting the president and the Democrats.
They are doing more damage to our country than the enemy, although the Democrats are not doing much better.
The GOP has used all that energy trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act but without having a replacement. Are they just going to leave all who signed up without medical care?
The majority of voters, both Democratic and Republican, wish we could clean house. The selfish and childish ways both parties are acting is one of the best reasons for term limits. If we could get enough voters from each state to show their displeasure, Congress members would do a much better job of serving the people and taking care of our country.
They would think twice before sending another letter disrespecting our country overseas.

Israel in the right
I am so thankful that Benjamin Netanyahu was re-elected in Israel, as he is a great leader for the nation of Israel and our nation' leaders need to stand with him.
For the nation of Israel will still be a nation long after Iran is buried in the sand. There is a God in heaven that watches over Israel.
Furthermore the land belongs to Israel and the nations' leaders need to realize that God gave them the land. It is not divided. Israel is a sovereign nation and Israel can do as they will with its land and no one has the right to tell them to give up part of it. Right is still right, and wrong is still wrong.
