Same ol' same ol' Big Blue inanity
I'm getting awfully tired of the typical sports reports on local TV. They always seem to follow the same pattern, such as: "The world was turned upside down today when ... we interrupt for this breaking news. Coach John Calipari's No. 1 target for the class of 2019 has narrowed his choices to 127 colleges. More later.
"Now back to our big story, as I said, this unprecedented feat was accomplished by .... this just in, the University of Kentucky basketball schedule for 2016 was released moments ago, details later.
"Now back to our historic big story ... sorry, but we're out of time. Tune in to true blue coverage at 6 when Alan Cutler will have the heartwarming story about the third cousin, twice removed of the former UK student manager walk-on. You won't want to miss that. Nancy, back to you."
Never miss a local story.
Right about guns
This is to praise a well-written article regarding history and evil by Dr. Cameron S. Schaeffer. The Second Amendment is the last bastion of our freedom and Schaeffer explained it all perfectly.
At the age of 92, I do not hunt anymore. I do not carry a gun with me regardless of any future laws on the subject. A person with a warped mind will find a way to do harm, with or without a weapon.

Hate is taught
I am once again consumed by grief at the horrors of bigotry. I am reminded of the lyrics of Rogers and Hammerstein's South Pacific. "You've got to be taught to hate and fear. You've got to be taught from year to year, it's got to be drummed in your dear little ear, you've got to be carefully taught!"
If prejudice is to be eradicated, it is up to you and me.
When people gossip and make derogatory remarks in your presence they are telling you they don't think much of you. We must not be afraid to confront evil and prejudice, whether it be next door or across the country.
Consider this saying: What you are afraid to do is a clear indicator of the next thing you need to do.
Love is love
A recent letter stated that marriage between straight individuals is love, but "marriage between gay individuals is 99 percent about money." Does the man who wrote this letter believe homosexuals are incapable of love?
For all couples, the decision to go through with a wedding is preceded by a unique set of varied and complicated circumstances.
I believe most people who marry do so primarily to acknowledge and celebrate the mutual love and commitment they have for one another. Regardless of sexual orientation.
The Bible is proof
Since early in time, man has thumbed his nose and shaken his fist at God, mostly for selfish reasons. Satan has always been there urging man's fall. In the garden he lied to Adam and Eve when he said, "Did God really say that?"
Today the great deceiver still tricks us and we still fall for it.
I disagree with the Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage. There are other ways to ensure civil rights rather than trampling on states' rights and God's word.
We all sin and mess up God's plan for us. But he loves us and if we accept Jesus as our savior we are forgiven. By his grace we are saved. We then live a life that is pleasing to him and spread the good news of Jesus to everyone.
The enemy wants to stop this so we must not be silent. We must not back down.
Let's continue to spread the good news and let's stop shaking our fists at God. Men will ridicule us for being followers of Christ. I will gladly wear the burden of our savior Jesus Christ.
