Thanks for the Herald-Leader's complimentary remarks, calling me "agitator in residence."
Other agitators: Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, Tom Paine, Mother Jones, Joel Pett, Larry Keeling and Jennifer Hewlett?
I began agitating after my little friend from my paper route was suffocated in an abandoned refrigerator and after seeing a man beating his wife.
Agitation goals since then, some successful and some not so successful:
Never miss a local story.
■ Remove doors from discarded refrigerators.
■ Toughen spousal abuse laws.
■ Rights for newspaper carriers.
■ Integration of the University of Kentucky basketball program and other human rights.
■ Protection of civil liberties.
■ Abolition of broad form deeds.
■ End of strip-mining abuse.
■ End Vietnam War (now other wars).
■ End discriminatory draft system.
■ Expand black lung benefits.
■ Support women's rights, choice.
■ Support bottle bill (gave legislature testimony, requested by former mayor).
■ Stop the privatization of foster care (hierarchy advocating failed Florida model).
■ End to sex abuse.
■ Abolition of the death penalty.
■ Ending income taxes, replaced with no-exemption, value-added, health and environmental damage cost added, sales or property taxes.
■ Medicare for all.
■ End money domination of elections with candidate information/voter packets to all voters, candidate forums and inclusive Web page.
■ Luggage for foster and adoptive kids.
■ Legally and taxed medical marijuana locally.
■ Elected city auditor for greater accountability of funds,
■ Stopped closing Vine Street; opposed closing of Rose Street.
■ Against property development near Calumet.
■ Opposed giveaway of Reynolds Road land under Mayor Scotty Baesler.
