Patti Starr is a world renowned paranormal investigator who owns the Ghost Chasers International organization founded in 1996 based in Lexington, Kentucky. She is also owner of the Ghost Hunter Shop located at 835 Porter Place, Lexington, Kentucky. Patti is the tour guide for Bardstown Ghost Trek which she started in 1997 in Bardstown, KY.
With over 30 years of paranormal research and ghost investigations Patti has captured many anomalies in photos, videos and audios while investigating haunted locations. Her goal as an experienced and accomplished paranormal investigator is to collect evidence to support the premise that life goes on even after death. Her book, Ghost Hunting in Kentucky and Beyond , is widely hailed as a must-have resource for all serious ghost hunters.
Patti has been teaching ghost hunting courses at the Bluegrass Community and Technical College in Lexington, Kentucky since 2001 and is currently lecturing at universities, colleges, and libraries throughout the United States.
In 2006 Patti Starr was voted as one of the Top Ten Ghost Hunter Paranormal Investigators in America for 2007 and 2008.
Patti has been featured on A&E's "Paranormal State" filmed at a haunted residence, A&E "Airline" filmed in Birmingham, AL, at the haunted Sloss Furnaces. A film clip of that investigation was featured on the Montel Williams Show. She was also featured on the Food Network "The Best of Fright Food" filmed at the haunted Talbott Tavern in Bardstown, Kentucky.
Patti is currently working on an event, ScareFest, which will be held at the Lexington Center on September 12, 13, 14, 2008. It is herald to be the biggest "Horror and Paranormal" convention in the Southeast. It will feature many stars and celebrities from the horror and paranormal communities.

A: Oh, Mike, this same experience is happening to me as well. I am married to an amazing and wonderful, loving man and about half an hour before he is due home I hear him arriving. I hear the car pull into the garage, his footsteps come up the stairs, the door opening and sometimes I can even hear him at his desk, adding up the days sales receipts on the adding machine. This has gone on in the 8 years I have been married to him and when my precious dogs were alive, until 2005, they would go and stand at the top of the stairs waiting for him to come through the door. When nothing happened within 5 or 10 minutes after sitting at the door waiting they would go and lay back down until his actual arrival. I must say you are the very first person that I have heard of that is having this same experience. I've always thought that the sound I was hearing is what we call a residual haunting. You don't have to be in the spirit world to create these phenomena. It is energy that is embedded into a location from repeating a path of activities over and over until it sticks. Q: I'll be taking a trip to Ireland with a pal and were going ghost hunting on our own. We want to buy a few must have instruments to take with us, like a EMF detector, dousing rods and what else do you think? A: Hello Leatta, Congratulations on your trip to Ireland. I’ve heard from many psychics that Ireland is one of the most haunted countries you could hope to visit for ghost hunting. I can only expect the best evidence of ghosts and hauntings coming from you while on your tour there. I hope you will share your finding with me.When I travel with my equipment I pack most of it in my suitcases that I leave at the check-in. I lay my dowsing rods in the bottom of my suitcase before filling it up with my clothes and other items needed for my trip. If it is a camera, computer or other more sensitive equipment I have a backpack on wheels that I use to store this equipment and I place it in the overhead bin or under the seat of the airplane so it can stay with me at all times.

Q: My question is ... Is it possible for a ghost in the home able to affect my feelings such as deppression or cause it?I moved in this house a couple years ago, and I was a pretty happy person.but I have grown so depressed I can hardly get myself to leave my home. It is affecting my family terribly. I have awoken in the night once or twice with a heavy weight on me like I was being held down so I couldnt move and thought it was a dream but now I am not so sure. I know theres two male spirits in the house they have been seen and felt, normally I do not feel out right threatened,but I feel changed. I am just asking if it is a possible reason to these changes in me.

A: To address the state of your depression may be caused by a variety of stimuli. When we move from one place to another it can cause us to go through minor adjustments that can trigger an emotion of grief and depression. Even something as changing jobs, moving into a new city, a marital change, stress and the list goes on. Most of the time when the cycle of grief has completed the depression will work itself out and our lives will begin to function the way it was before the change occurred. If you have talked to a grief counselor or another professional (doctor or psychologist) about your depression it might be due to a change or even something physical that is going on inside your body that would show up in a simple blood test.As far as addressing the heavy weight you feel upon waking could be attributed to a condition called sleep paralysis. This can also be brought on by stress and other factors that you are trying to deal with during your waking hours. Since you have seen two male spirits in your house and you’ve noticed that you feel different or changed because of their presence you may want to do a cleansing/blessing of your home and surroundings. I would suggest you use the scared sage and a ritual to smudge and cleanse your surroundings of any negative residual energy or unwanted ghosts in your home. A: Let’s look at the word “Spell” for the meaning, a formula of words to have some magical power or influence (description of spell found in the New World Dictionary). In order for a spell to work there has to be intention which focuses the will to succeed. If you are aware of this spell coming to you, your power to resist and combat the spell is made of the same energy of intent. The only time a spell has power over you is if you allow it to. You may not realize this until your reality becomes very challenged and you may notice more difficulties coming into your life. At that point you make the intention to discard any spells or negative energy that has been put into your energy field. You can go through a Chakra cleanse and then surround yourself with bright light to protect yourself from future harm.If you think that the spell can harm you then the intent is there and it will harm you. If you think you can cleanse it away then the intent is there and it will be cleansed from you and the light will protect you. Personally, I am a strong believer that through our thoughts we create our own reality and perception is reality. Q: Patti I was told to look you up as I have friends in Kentucky and your well known out there. My son is a Ghost hunter...but that's not my questions. We are having EVP sessions in my home..with a four year old little girl and Lucus.They have thrown bisentenial quarters and other coins to let us know we were going to be okay and money was coming. We are going through a difficult time with both my husband and I having health issues. My question is Do these Spirits have to pay consequences for the answers that they give us? Are we working them all too hard? My son David is devistated thinking we are putting too many demands on this child. Should we not ask them quesions..although she says they are here to help us.She called me on the phone this little spirit ..I thought I'd die ...my heart started to pound. She went from calling my daughter to me to my sons cell phone for three hours. She is constantly telling me I need to write the book...I can't move fast enough....I need to know if it is all okay to talk with our little spirit and if they are held accountable for giving us some answers that we ask? The first class is an intro to ghost hunting and the second class in advanced and certification for ghost hunter. I taught these classes at LCC, which later became BCTC, for 7 years until due to budget constraints Bluegrass Community & Technical College was forced to cancel the Community Education classes as of July 1, 2008.I’m glad to see that you are seeking to educate yourself in this field to improve your skills as a ghost hunter. Q: Good Afternoon, A few years ago I met a man who guided me to you and to your books on Kentucky Hauntings (pardon my embarassment if this is mis-directed, but I am pretty sure I am on-key here). I have always had an interest in the paranormal, and the education of certified ghost hunters. In Lexington, where could I pursue a future knowledge and increase my personal experience with hauntings in KY? I have several friends looking for information in this field as well. We were all kind of under the impression that Lexington Community College (or what was once LCC) had courses surrounding ghost hunting, even offering certification. A: Denise you have an amazing story. I can understand your concern about these children helping you and by having this concern you show your care and love for them. When you ask the question, “Do these Spirits have to pay consequences for the answers that they give us? Are we working them all too hard?”, would be difficult for me to answer since I don’t know how often you communicate with them or who initiates the communications.Also, how do you feel during the time you spend with them and what type of questions are you asking? If you are asking questions for their concern, like, “Are you happy were you are?”, or, “Do you need help moving on?”, or “Can you tell me what it’s like where you are?” By asking these types of questions you are expressing concern for them. If you are asking them questions about your finances and health problem I’m not sure how much they can help you, especially if they say they are children. Sometimes they may tell us what we want to hear and with all advice we still have to weigh the odds to help us make the right decisions.… Patti*

Q: Hello, I seem to have a problem w/ orbs. Originally I was in NM w/ a few friends and saw this huge orb about 60' away and was fortunate enough to catch it on camera. This was not a blurred pattern but very distinct lines that looked similar to a maze. I had been having some problems w/ my camera right before and had not realized at the time that I had caught a female figure on film that I could see through. Unfortunately since that time I can't seem to not catch them on film.... My main complaint is that I have to carry a pocket full of batteries all the time because they keep draining my power. This applies to all cameras that I use, mine or others. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank You

A: It is very likely that when you are in an area where spirits want to come through to you by means of a camera they might drain the power from batteries. Since you are frequently getting these energies to come through your camera they may choose to communicate with you via your camera. For many years I battled with the same annoyance of having my batteries drained until I found I could buy re-chargeable batteries and that has made a world of difference. Most places that I go will have an electrical outlet so along with all my other equipment I always make sure I pack my battery charger and extra chargeable batteries. Q: Ms. Starr: I understand that you charge for investigations, and that you're certified. What about those groups that don't charge fees for investigations, and don't have certifications? I've heard good things about this particular group that doesn't charge, but isn't it somewhat risky to have amateurs doing these types of investigations?

A: Billy, You have a very valid concern and I’m so glad to read that you are really thinking your situation though. When someone is facing an unknown disturbance in their home or work place most people will seek out help to discover what is really going on. Is it paranormal or is there a logical explanation for the weird happening? You want to make sure that the person or group you invite into your surroundings are capable of dealing with haunting, spirits, ghosts, etc. based on training, skills, and experiences.The next step is to go to your computer, type into a search engine, (www.google.com) the word ghost hunters, then type in (the name of your home town or if it is to small the name of the closest big town) and then type in the state (where you live). This should pull up a pretty good selection of ghost hunter groups for you to choose from.
Now, here is where the hard part comes in and takes some research to find the right group to investigate your situation. Most of the website will be very informative and should have case studies with the results of their investigations published in photos, videos, or audios. I find that most of these groups will also list their many years of experience and their background details. I would look for testimonials to make sure they are who they claim to be and that their experience as a ghost hunter is validated.
I don’t feel you have to be certified or charge for an investigation (I do not charge for the investigations only for my travel expenses) to be a good ghost hunter but I do feel that you need training and lots of field experiences before going public. Since ghost hunting is not an exact science you will find a variety of ghost hunting styles and methodology. It would be a good idea to ask the ghost hunter how he and his group plan on addressing your concern about the paranormal activity that you are facing. If you agree with their methods and beliefs after validating that they are skilled and knowledgeable then I would go with this group…Let me know if you find someone…..Patti*

However when a body interacts with either direction from another phsyical body, both bodies take an attracted temperature from the interaction. A: You have presented some very interesting questions and some of them I really don’t know the answer to your question. I have to my best ability answered what I feel fits my skill as a ghost hunter. I feel that sometimes when we see a face, symbol or other distinctive image in the center of an orb this needs to be considered as something more and possibly relating to spirit activity. Q. I do not have an exact explanation of why we experience cold or hot spots when dealing with spirit activities. I only suspect that while they are near and trying to conform to a shape they effect the area by pulling in energy and leaving a cold or hot spot in its place. Ghost hunting is not an exact science and I do not have proof that ghost or spirits even exists. All I have to work with is evidence collected during an investigation. I do not have formulas to dictate to me how to measure these findings as you would if you were a physicist. Q. What is your take? A. I am a ghost hunter and not a physicist. I have studied quantum physics to help me understand some of the issue that involve light, sound, and electronic and magnetic energies (which help me understand the energy of the spirits) but I do not have the knowledge that you display with your questions. Q: How do I tell if I have a message from the dead on my phone message machine? I really need to know I think my dead aunt called my mom this week and she has been dead since Dec. 27 07.THE VOICE is un natural sounding very weak and quavery like 100 yr old person the voice sounded someone what familar, but not sure. My cousin I both said the same thing that it was my aunt Emily. Who ever it was called my mother by name. AND THEN ASKED FOR HER DRS. # only the message was backward instead of saying I want my DR.S # THEY SAID My Dr. # I want, My Dr. # I want. then hung up. No one seems to know anything about it. A: I myself have received disturbing calls of this nature. They follow your description in a similar way. Sometimes they sound so out-of-this-world and then I wonder if some older person had just gotten confused and called the wrong number. In these cases it is very hard to prove if this is evidence coming from a loved one that has crossed over or a ghost that is desperately calling for help. When I get these kinds of phone calls I ask Archangel Azrael to please help this person if they are finding difficulty crossing over. Q: Hi Patti, several months ago I was awakened from my sleep to find a purple fog or haze in my bedroom I felt like someone was watching me. it happened 3 times no noise or anthing just a weird feeling, the last time i felt it touch my feet not hard just a gentle brush.fast forward to now we have a friend that shares our home he is a 80 year old man. several times a week he is awakened by somthing he says it feels small grabbing him, poking him, trying to choke him,pulling his fingers apart. it has tore 2 t-shirts off him while he was wrestling it and has left marks on his arms and hands.I would like this to remain private. is there anything I can do to stop this? A: I feel like the strongest defense from an energy we don’t understand is to become powerfully protected from it. Prayer is the absolute best remedy and also smudging with sacred sage is good to do. Before your friend goes to bed call Archangel Michael into the room for protection as well. Ask Michael to cover the room in a bright light of love and protection. He is the fiery angel that can protect us from any evil no matter how strong. These are very powerfully protections I am giving you and they work 100%. If it continues then it may not be of a paranormal nature. The mist may be some type of geo-gas coming from ley lines that is affecting visions, moods, and personalities. Q: I often get strange feelings when I approach old places. At first I thought it was simply my imagination, however looking into my family history I discovered that my grandmother was a seventh daughter of a seventh daughter as well as a gifted psychic. She called them "visions" that god sent her to prepare her for what was to come. My maternal grandmother was a practicing white witch who had the ability to stop blood and talk fire out of a burn. With such a "colorful" history I grew curious. I realize after some research that I may be what is often referred to as a sensitive. If this is the case, how can I be sure and how can I control it? I do not care for the unexpected walls of emotions I find myself walking into and would like some help in fortelling or at least protecting myself against such.

A: I would have to agree with you and say that you do resemble someone that is referred to as a sensitive. This skill can be enhanced and developed for good use and even learning how to use your gift to heal as well. I would like to recommend a book titled, “Psychic Development for beginners” by William Hewitt. It was the book that took my abilities to another level after completing the 44 exercises that he lists in his book. Once you complete this book then you might want to see what your intuitive sense tells you to do next.
