A Prestonsburg woman was killed in a car crash in bad weather Wednesday afternoon on U.S. 23 in Floyd County.
Amanda Smith, 24, lost control of her 1999 Pontiac about 4 p.m. while driving south on U.S. 23 in Prestonsburg, said officer George Tussey with the Prestonsburg accident reconstruction unit.
The car spun into the northbound lanes and was struck by a tractor-trailer, he said.
"I don't know if she hydroplaned or if it was just due to the weather," Tussey said.
Both vehicles ended up in the southbound lanes. The road was shut down in both directions for about three hours.
There were no signs of speeding, alcohol or drugs, he said.
The truck driver was not injured.
Tussey asked that anyone who witnessed the accident call (606) 886-1010.
