Big Blue Crush, an annual competition for blood donations between University of Kentucky and University of Tennessee fans, will be held Monday through Friday.
Tennessee leads the 24-year battle for most blood donors 12 years to 10, with 1 tie. Kentucky won last year for the first time since 2002.
The Kentucky Blood Center, which accepts donations from Kentucky fans, said it hopes for 4,000 donors this year. That would ensure victory and a sufficient blood supply during the holidays.
All donors get a Big Blue Crush T-shirt and a coupon for a free McDonald's McCafe beverage. Prizes are also available. On Monday and Tuesday, donors have a chance at two tickets to the UK-Tennessee football game Nov. 26. Donors will be eligible to win a $200 gas cards and a grand-prize NCAA game package.
All KBC donor centers will be open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the competition. There will also be a number of blood drives throughout the area.
