State Rep. Alecia Webb-Edgington, R-Fort Wright, said early Monday that she will run for the congressional seat held by retiring U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis, R-Hebron.
In a statement, Webb-Edgington said she would file formal papers to run Monday.
"Congressman Geoff Davis leaves big shoes to fill," she said. "I applaud him for his effective leadership and wish him well as he returns to the private sector."
Webb-Edgington has been a Kentucky state representative since 2008. Before that, she worked for the Kentucky Department of Homeland Security and Kentucky State Police.

She graduated from Western Kentucky University and holds a master's degree in criminal justice from Eastern Kentucky University.
