Jessica Tompkins, an 18-year-old Bryan Station High School senior, was mulling over her first taste of grape leaves Monday at the school's second annual Diversity Fair. "They're not bad," Tompkins said. The grape leaves were among Palestinian dishes served at the fair, along with food from Spain, Turkey and other countries. The event, designed to expose students to other peoples and cultures, also featured a showing of ethnic fashions and musical performances from foreign lands. Many of the foods were prepared by the students. Senior Jeremy Lavizzio, 17, whipped up some Spanish rice using a recipe from his uncle, who once lived in Spain. The ingredients: rice, chipotle seasoning, spaghetti sauce and green and red chili peppers. "I'm good with food," Jeremy said.
