Two troopers have been placed on leave after a shooting in Knott County left one man dead, a Kentucky State Police spokesman said.
Trooper Tony Watts of the Hazard post says the late Saturday night incident began as a welfare check on Mousie resident Linda Sizemore. Watts says in a news release that when troopers Joel Abner and Randall Riley arrived at Sizemore's residence, 63-year-old Charles Edward Sizemore pulled out a handgun.
Watts says gunfire was exchanged and Charles Sizemore was pronounced dead at the scene by the Knott County coroner. He says both Abner and Riley were not injured.
They are both four-year veterans with the state police.
The investigation is continuing.
