Ballet Under the Stars turns 20 this year, and the annual summer rite is going back to its roots.
This year, in addition to showcasing local dance and ballet talent as always, the Woodland Park event will employ the talents of Ballet Under the Stars founder Kirt Hathaway, who will choreograph a piece called River of Tears.
"I am honored to be part of the event once again and proud to see that what we envisioned so long ago has continued on year after year," he said.
The outdoor event was scheduled to open Thursday and run through Sunday. The main-curtain show will include the La Vivandiere pas de six, Diana and Acteon pas de deux, Preludes, Don Quixote pas de deux, Remix 03 and Open Space. The advance show is Aladdin.
Dancers have rehearsed for several weeks for the show. We spent some time with them, photographing their journey from practice to perfection.
