Fayette County Property Valuation Administrator David O'Neill announced Friday that he has raised almost $30,000 for his election bid.
O'Neill faces his predecessor in the post, Renee True, in the May 18 Democratic primary. The winner of that contest will face the Republican nominee Nov. 2.
True left the post Jan. 1, after 16 years on the job, because of an attractive state pension incentive. She announced she was getting back into the race Nov. 7.
According the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance website, O'Neill has raised $25,056.07 as of Nov. 4. True, who's been in the race a week, had no contributions listed on the registry.
In 2007, True was a lieutenant governor candidate with former Lt. Gov. Steve Henry in the Democratic primary for Governor. They lost in the primary to Gov. Steve Beshear and Lt. Gov. Dan Mongiardo. Beshear appointed O'Neill to the post when True departed.
