The Crushed Violet, a new fragrance boutique at 131 Church Street, offers hard-to-find imported scents and local favorites.
For owner Erin Miller, it's a way to share her love of scents.
"I have been wearing all of the lines that I have in the shop for years, and this has been something I've wanted to do for 10 years," she said.
After searching online for two years for the right space, Miller was driving downtown when she spotted a "for lease" sign at a historical building. She opened her business about six weeks ago.
"I really feel passionate about the fragrances that I have," she said. "I think having a niche fragrance — something you wear that no one else wears — is kind of a less-expensive way to express yourself."
Among the store's fragrances are French-based lines including Miller et Bertaux and Parfums DelRae, American collections from Yosh Han and Tokyo Milk, and mainstream brands Prada and Givenchy.
In addition to scents, the store offers body wash, body creme, eye pillows, fine milled soaps and more. Locally produced products include Woodford Wicks candles and Ruth Hunt candies.
Miller also provides gift wrap and shipping services. Hours are 11 a.m.to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Call (859) 317-8251 or go to Thecrushedviolet.com.
