Saint-Marc Dokossi scored three goals, and Henry Clay rolled to a 6-0 first-round state tournament victory at South Laurel.
"He really set the tone for us," Blue Devils Coach Tim Bernardi said of Dokossi, who scored the first two goals. Henry Clay went up 5-0 in the first half thanks to goals from Walker Ueland and Albert LuKonga and another from Dokossi. LuKonga scored again in the second half.
It was the seventh win in a row for Henry Clay (16-6-1) and its fifth shutout in that span.
And the Devils did it against a high-powered South Laurel offense led by Jeffrey Poston, who had 68 goals and 26 assists this season. He was averaging just less than three goals a game for the Cardinals (20-2-1), which was more than Henry Clay was scoring as a team.
Bernardi said the defense was focused on stopping Poston, and "on both sides of the ball, we took care of business."
The Devils travel to Paul Dunbar to face the Bulldogs (19-2-3) in Thursday's quarterfinals.
