The University of Washington scored three goals in the first half and went on to defeat the Kentucky women's soccer team 4-1 on Friday night in the Wildcats' season opener in Seattle.
Preseason All-American Arin Gilliland scored the only goal for Kentucky.
Jaclyn Softli scored the game's first goal in the 11th minute, capitalizing on a UK turnover in the midfield and beating UK's keeper one-on-one. In the 16th minute, Becca Schoales scored on a cross from Kate Bennett to put Washington up 2-0. Five minutes later, Gilliland whipped a long-range shot from the left side of the field into the right-side netting for her goal. Kimberly Keever put home a cross from the far side of the field to extend Washington's lead to 3-1 in the 34th minute. UW's final goal came in the 69th minute on a one-touch shot from Amanda Perez. Kentucky returns to action Sunday, when it visits Seattle University at 3 p.m. EDT.
