Women’s tennis: Twentieth-ranked Kentucky advanced to the round of 32 at the NCAA championships in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Friday by defeating Xavier 4-1. The Cats’ Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi, the No. 1 doubles team in the nation defeated the Musketeers’ Sydney Liggins and Anna Ismail 6-2, and Nadia Ravita and Justina Mikulskyte secured the opening point by beating Cristina di Lorenzo and Alex Brinkder 6-4. UK got singles victories from Akvile Paražinkskaite, Kirsten Lewis and Adachi to clinch the victory.
Next up for Kentucky is host Michigan on Saturday afternoon. The 10th-ranked Wolverines defeated Ball State 4-0 on Friday.
Baseball: Mississippi rolled to a 14-2 victory over Kentucky in Oxford, Miss. The Cats gave up 21 hits, 14 of those by starter Dustin Beggs. Gunnar McNeill had a pair of hits and knocked in both of UK’s runs.
Track and field: Kentucky’s Sha’Keela Saunders won silver in the women’s long jump claims the Southeastern Conference Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Her best jump — 21 feet, 8 1/4 inches — came on her final attempt.
