Former University of Kentucky and West Jessamine High School soccer standout Arin Gilliland has an opportunity to make her professional debut Saturday night.
Gilliland is a rookie with the Chicago Red Stars, who play their season and home opener in the National Women's Soccer League against the Seattle Reign.
The match, to be played at Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle, Ill., will be broadcast live on YouTube at 8 p.m. EDT.
Saturday's match features six members of the squad that will represent the United States in this summer's World Cup in Canada — Seattle's Hope Solo and Megan Rapinoe and Chicago's Shannon Boxx, Lori Chalupny, Julie Johnston and Christen Press.
Gilliland, who was selected No. 8 overall in the Jan. 16 NWSL Draft, signed with the Red Stars on April 6 and was named to the team's 19-player roster for 2015 season. She is listed as one of seven defenders on the squad.
Gilliland was a starter in the Red Stars' most recent preseason game on April 8, but no lineup has been announced for Saturday's match.
Gilliland, the 2014 Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year, is part of a Chicago team that is one of the youngest, but most talented in the league. Chicago finished fifth in the nine-team league with a 9-7-8 record last season, missing the playoffs by one position.
