The Detroit Pistons announced that former University of Kentucky star Jodie Meeks will miss 12 to 16 weeks after suffering a foot injury during the team's season opener on Wednesday.
The injury is a non-displaced fracture of the fifth metatarsal of his right foot.
"Jodie has been a big focal point in terms of when we have to run sets in that second unit," Pistons Coach Stan Van Gundy said in a report on the team's website. "We used to run Jodie off a lot of screens. He was probably the go-to guy when we had to get into half-court offense, so that'll have to change a little bit."
Van Gundy said he talked to Meeks, who missed the first 22 games of last season with a lower back injury, on Thursday before he underwent surgery.
"He was in good spirits — not too down," Van Gundy said. "A little disappointed, obviously, to have two years in a row like this. Feels a little snakebit, but he was in good spirits."
