Cory Farris got the Cats on the board early and Chad Wright had a perfect day at the plate to lift UK to a 9-3 victory and a series sweep over IPFW on Sunday at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
Farris' first-inning homer gave the Cats a 3-0 lead that they would never relinquish.
Wright, a Paducah native, was 4-for-4 at the plate with a sacrifice bunt to lead the Wildcats offensively. UK starter Alex Meyer (3-2) went five innings, giving up one run on four hits while striking out four and walking four to help the Cats improve to 13-2.
Meyer lasted five or more innings for the third time this season, picking up wins in all three outings. The sophomore has struck out a team-high 26 batters in 21 innings of work.
Never miss a local story.
Meyer was replaced by fellow sophomore Sean Bouthilette, who lasted 12⁄3 innings with two hits, two runs — one earned — one walk and one strikeout.
Bouthilette, an Elizabethtown native, was relived from his second appearance of the season by junior Matt Little.
The reigning National Player of the Week, Little went the final 12⁄3 innings, allowing one hit and striking out four. Little recorded his team-high fourth save of the season and has 21 strikeouts batters in just over 15 innings of work. Little has allowed only five hits and a .109 opposing batting average so far this year.
