J.T. Riddle, a former Western Hills and University of Kentucky star, got three hits for the third time in his last four games in Class A Greensboro’s 10-6 loss at Asheville on Wednesday.
Riddle, who plays in the Miami Marlins organization, had a double, a two-run homer and two runs scored. His 3-for-5 night boosted his batting average to .285, and he has seven home runs and 41 RBI in 71 games.
Over his last four games, Riddle is 11-for-17 (.647) with two home runs and five RBI. He also has a seven-game hitting streak.
■ Former UK standout Alex Meyer struck out eight in six scoreless innings for Triple-A Rochester. The 6-foot-9 Minnesota Twins prospect left with a 2-0 lead but did not factor in the decision in a 6-5 victory in 11 innings at Durham.
Meyer is 5-4 and lowered his ERA to 3.15 in 20 starts. He has 115 strikeouts and 47 walks in 101 1/3 innings.
Josh Lueke (Scott, NKU) pitched for the Bulls. The Tampa Bay Rays minor leaguer gave up two runs in 1 1/3 innings. He also didn’t factor in the decision and has a 0-0 record with six saves and a 1.96 ERA in 15 appearances.
■ Matt Reida (UK) drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Rays a 6-5 victory against the Red Sox.
The Tampa Bay prospect was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. He’s batting .344 with three triples and eight RBI in 18 games.
■ Jerad Grundy (UK) gave up five runs in the first inning, but settled down and didn’t give up a run in the next four and earned the win in short-season Class A Vermont’s 8-6 defeat of Lowell.
Grundy (1-4) gave up eight hits and walk and struck out three. He has a 4.57 ERA in eight starts for the Oakland A’s affiliate.
Max Kuhn (UK), who also plays for the Lake Monsters, was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. He's batting .250 with three homers and seven RBI in 19 games.
Chandler Shepherd (Lawrence Co., UK) threw two scoreless innings of relief for Lowell. The Boston Red Sox minor-leaguer gave up four hits and struck out one. He has a 1-2 record and 5.28 ERA in 10 games.
■ Adam Engel (U of L) led off the game with a home run and added an RBI single in Class A Kannapolis’ 6-2 win at Hagerstown. The Chicago White Sox prospect is batting .255 with six homers and 25 RBI in 58 games.
