AJ Reed, who swept all of the major national college player of the year awards this past season at Kentucky, hit his fourth minor-league home run in short-season Class A Tri-City’s 14-0 victory against Staten Island on Thursday night. Reed also had a double and scored two runs in five at-bats in the team’s fifth straight win.
Reed's two hits were part of a 16-hit effort by Tri-City.
"Hitting's very contagious," Reed told the Albany Times Union. "Tonight, we were in a good groove, seeing the ball well and putting good swings on it."
His home run was a three-run shot in the fifth inning.
Never miss a local story.
"Honestly, I didn't even really hit it that well," Reed told the Times Union. "I just thought it was a deep fly maybe off the wall or something, but I didn't know it was going to go out. I just tried to put a good swing on it."
