Zack Brown worked into the eighth inning and allowed just one earned run, Ka’ai Tom collected three hits, and Kyle Barrett hit his first home run of the season in Kentucky’s 10-2 victory over No. 20 Mississippi State on Friday night in Lexington.
Brown (2-2) worked 7 1/3 innings, allowing only four hits and one earned run, walking five and striking out four for Kentucky (14-7, 1-3 Southeastern Conference).
Tom finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base.
Kentucky’s Raymond Dykstra opened the outdoor track and field season with a javelin throw that traveled nearly two feet farther than the distance it took for him to win the Southeastern Conference championship last year. His throw of 252 feet, one inch earned him the victory Friday at the University of Texas-San Antonio Challenge Invitational. Dykstra won the 2014 SEC title with a throw of 250 feet, 10 inches, and went on top that with a second-place effort at the NCAA Championships (251 feet, 8 inches).
Rebecca Famurewa won the hammer throw on her last attempt (196 feet, 7 inches).
