The NCAA released its Academic Progress Rate report on Wednesday, showing that all 22 Kentucky sports teams surpassed the target score and that 12 exceeded the national average for public universities in their sports.
The men's basketball team was one of those 12 with a score of 979 out of a possible 1,000. Football also exceeded the average with a 948. The women's soccer team led the way for UK at 983. The marks are a four-year composite, covering the 2004-05 through 2007-08 school years, that measures academic eligibility and retention of athletes. The NCAA target score for each sport is 925. Teams that fall below that can be subjected to immediate penalties, such as scholarship losses. Those falling below 900 consistently can be hit with the harshest sanctions.
In April, men's basketball got a public recognition award from the NCAA for finishing among the top 10 percent in its sport.
