Former Louisville star Kenny Payne will join John Calipari's basketball staff at Kentucky, according to Oregon Coach Dana Altman.
Payne has been an assistant at Oregon since 2004. Altman replaced Payne's former boss, Ernie Kent, as Oregon's coach last month, and he offered to keep Payne on staff.
"He's done a great job for us, and I really wanted him to stay,'' Altman told The (Eugene, Ore.) Register-Guard.
Payne is likely to fill the spot on Calipari's staff vacated by Rod Strickland. Strickland moved from assistant coach to an off-court position following his arrest last month for driving under the influence.

Payne was a forward on U of L's 1986 NCAA championship team before moving on to the NBA, where he played for the Philadelphia 76ers from 1989-93.
