Trevor Lacey, one of the top unsigned prospects remaining in the class of 2011, discussed his official recruiting visit to the University of Kentucky this week with the Lawrence (Kan.) Journal World on Wednesday and said he came away impressed.
"I enjoyed it. It was great," Lacey told the Kansas newspaper. "Just seeing how Coach (John) Calipari is ... he's passionate, always helping his players. He's always on the go about them."
Lacey, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Huntsville, Ala., is the No. 24-rated player in the nation by recruiting service Rivals.com. He plans to make an official visit to Kansas this weekend.
In addition to Kentucky and Kansas, Lacey's final list of possible schools includes Alabama, Auburn, Connecticut and North Carolina State.
Never miss a local story.
The Lawrence newspaper said Lacey was originally scheduled to visit Kansas last weekend, but that trip was delayed because of the devastating tornadoes in his home state.
Instead, he will visit this Saturday and Sunday and said he is looking forward to checking out Kansas right on the heels of his visit to UK.
Lacey told the Journal World he's "looking forward to getting to know (Kansas) Coach (Bill) Self better this weekend. I met him one time. He seems like a cool guy."
Lacey told the paper he's planning to visit Kansas because of an apparent opportunity for significant playing time as a freshman.
"Yes, sir," he said. "That's why I'm coming to visit."
The spring signing period ends May 18. Lacey has not set a date for his decision.
Kentucky has signed four prospects for the class of 2011, all of whom are rated near the top of Rivals.com's rankings: No. 2 Anthony Davis, No. 3 Michael Gilchrist, No. 5 Marquis Teague, and No. 22 Kyle Wiltjer.
