Kentucky's political elite will have plenty of cheese if Kentucky beats Wisconsin in Saturday night's Final Four basketball game.
U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, Lexington Mayor Jim Gray, U.S. Sens. Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul, and Gov. Steve Beshear all have made friendly wagers with their Wisconsin counterparts this week.
If Kentucky wins, they all get Badger State cheese, along with some bratwursts and beer.
If Wisconsin wins, Barr will be giving U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan some Kentucky beer cheese. Gray promised a gift basket of Laura's Lean Beef to Madison Mayor Paul Soglin. McConnell and Paul wagered a Kentucky Derby-Pie from Kern's Kitchen in Louisville with U.S. Sens. Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin. And Beshear put a fully-stocked Kentucky Bourbon barrel basket at stake with Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
In news releases, each politician expressed unwavering optimism that their team will win.
"The Cats are on a roll and Big Blue Nation can't wait to celebrate another win this Saturday," Paul said. "I know I will enjoy Kentucky's victory even more by celebrating with Wisconsin brats and cheese. Fear the tweak, Ron and Tammy."
