Not only is Orlando Antigua leaving the Kentucky basketball program, he's taking an assistant coach with him.
Antigua, named South Florida's basketball coach last month, hired Rod Strickland as an assistant coach Monday. Strickland, a former NBA star, spent the last five seasons as a special assistant to Coach John Calipari at Kentucky.
"I worked very closely with Rod for the past six years and he is ready for this next step up in his coaching career," Antigua said. "We had a chance to work together for a Hall of Fame coach at Kentucky in John Calipari. Rod has tremendous knowledge for the game and will be a great asset for the program."
Antigua announced two more additions to his coaching staff Monday.
Oliver Antigua, Orlando's younger brother who spent last season as an assistant coach at Seton Hall, will join Strickland as an assistant at South Florida. Jerry McCullough was named the director of men's basketball operations. McCullough spent the past two seasons as the coach at The MacDuffie School in New York City.
