The Kentucky players said they weren't concerned about rankings and honors.
Coach Matthew Mitchell told them those things would come in time if they kept winning.
He was right.
After winning two straight Southeastern Conference road games at No. 18 Louisiana State and at Mississippi State, UK (18-3, 6-2 SEC) leaped into the Associated Press poll at No. 20.
The USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll will be released Tuesday.
The Cats, who have won an unprecedented five in a row in the SEC, have not been ranked this high since the third week of the 2006-07 season, when they started with a No. 15 rating.
"It's exciting for our program to be ranked in the national polls, but like I've said before, the ranking we want to be in is the top 64, and that's the 64 teams who get invited to the NCAA Tournament," Mitchell said in a release through the school. "That's where our focus is, and we must remain hungry and humble because we still have a lot of games to play."
UK also swept the SEC honors this week with Victoria Dunlap earning Player of the Week and A'dia Mathies earning Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
It was a second honor this season for Dunlap, a 6-foot-2 junior forward from Nashville. She averaged a double-double with 21.5 points and 11.0 rebounds last week. Dunlap also became the 27th member of UK's 1,000-point club on Sunday after registering her 19th career double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Mississippi State.
Mathies, a 5-foot-9 guard from Iroquois, also earned her second honor this season after averaging 11 points, seven rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals in the wins.
