University of Kentucky junior guard A’dia Mathies has been named to the 2011-12 Naismith Trophy pre-season watch list.
The award, which goes to the nation’s player of the year, will be awarded by the Atlanta Tip-Off Club at the 2012 Final Four in Denver.
Mathies, a 5-foot-9 guard from Louisville, was a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection by the league’s coaches and media this pre-season.
She leads 12th-ranked Kentucky (7-0) in scoring this season, averaging 15.4 points per game and is No. 25 on the school’s all-time list with 1,034 points. Mathies also leads the SEC and ranks ninth nationally in steals per game (4.4).
