HOOVER, Ala. — Kentucky Coach Rich Brooks took a good-natured dig at the media on Monday for always picking his team last in the SEC East.
He will have even more ammunition now because his Wildcats were indeed picked to finish sixth in their division in the pre-season poll released at SEC Media Days on Friday. Florida was picked as the Southeastern Conference champion by 63 of the 64 voters, with Mississippi receiving the other vote. The Cats placed 11th overall in the league, ranking ahead of Mississippi State.
UK senior cornerback Trevard Lindley was named to the All-SEC first-team defense. Lindley was the lone Wildcat to make the first team. Senior linebacker Micah Johnson and offensive tackle Zipp Duncan were both named to the second team. Tennessee defensive back Eric Berry received the most overall votes with 62, which was one more than Florida quarterback Tim Tebow and Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes.
