Coach Joker Phillips doesn't don a wig or floppy shoes, but he is known to clown around and get a room going during the Kentucky's women's football clinic.
"It's like the coaches' inner comedian comes out," UK's Lisa Ellis said of the annual event, which is scheduled for July 30 at the UK football facilities. "They do such a wonderful job entertaining. It's such a fun event."
The women's clinic, which started with 70 women about six years ago, hosted 330 attendees last season.
Ellis, one of the event's organizers, said it's the coaches who keep many of the women coming back and bringing their friends.
Never miss a local story.
"They do it in such a way that it's very entertaining," Ellis said. "There's lots of laughter all day."
From the football novice to the expert, the clinic offers a little bit of something for all, she said.
"It doesn't matter your knowledge level, you do learn about football," Ellis said. "Our coaches are able to do it in a way that a person who comes in and doesn't know a lot about football can learn, as can some of the ladies we have who come in and know what's happening on every single down."
Coaches make short presentations and then do question-and-answer sessions.
Registration for the camp can be done at UKathletics.com, as well as in-person on the day of the event at 8 a.m. at Gate Four of Commonwealth Stadium. The fee is $75, which includes lunch.
